Virginia F. Gratton

April 4, 2020

Virginia F. (Sposito) Gratton, 95, of Monroeville, PA, died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, April 4, at home, accompanied by her family at her bedside. She was the third of four children born to Jack and Jennie Sposito, also of Monroeville, and sister to Mae, Martha, and Bill, all of whom preceded her in death. Virginia, or Jean, or Ginny, as she was known by some, was a homemaker since 1946, when she married Edward Gratton, who also preceded her in death in 2008. A member of “The Greatest Generation,” she graduated from Pitcairn High School in 1942 and immediately joined the work force, supporting the war effort by making helmet liners for our troops at the Trafford Micarta plant. After WWII, she worked at different occupations until she was hired full-time by Kroger, where she remained until 1963. Virginia loved her life, and LOVED her family and friends, and was always giving, without expecting anything in return. And she was loved by all of them. She loved her Lord, as well, and served the church faithfully. A son, Edward, Jr. (Amy), and grandchildren, Marisa (Eddie) Provident, Jillian, Tara, and Aaron, and numerous nieces and nephews survive. The family thanks AGH Home Hospice Services and everyone who extended financial, emotional, and spiritual support throughout her illness. It would be impossible to recognize everyone, but we love you all. Services and burial are private due to the COVID19 pandemic. A Celebration of Life Memorial Picnic is planned for a later date. Memorial contributions can be forwarded to the Hazelwood Christian Church, 118 Glen Caladh St., Pgh. PA 15207 and the Christian Evangelistic Society of Western PA, Joan Kim, Treasurer, 224 Cherrydell Dr., Pgh, PA 15220.
