William J. Cook

William J. Cook passed away on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. Bill lost the love of his life in July and carried his broken heart for as long as he could. Bill graduated from General Motors mechanic school and worked for several different GM dealers before opening his own shop, Cooper Tire, in Harmar. He lived a full and adventurous life that included piloting airplanes, revving up his speed boat for racing on the Allegheny River, snowmobiling on the trails of Somerset and boating on the waters of Lake Stoneycreek. Bill and his late wife, Jeanne, raised their family in Plum before relocating to a horse farm in Butler to pursue their love of horses. After unexpectedly losing their son in 1999, Bill and Jeanne sold the shop and moved their farm to Florida to enjoy retirement. Bill had all the toys and loved motorcycles, boats, planes, cars, his horse Rocky, many cats and their dogs Hershey Kiss and Annie. After losing Jeanne, Bill fought to continue but was lost without her. He will find rest with Jeanne and will finally be at peace next to their son, Billy. Bill was preceded in death by his late brother Robert (Patty) Cook. He is survived by his foster son Roger Gardner, sister Cheryl (Jim) Bender and brother-in-law William Dinneen. His nephews include Robert (Jodi Lynn) Cook, the late Richard Cook, Charles (Jodi) Cook, Michael Cook, David (Jennifer) Whitehead, Jonathan J.J. (Candace) Whitehead, Geoffrey Egnitz, James (Kathy) Toth. His nieces include Lacey Stepien, Carol (Charles) Baer, and Carol (Richard) Noel. Bill is also survived by his sisters-in-law Nancy Egnitz Andres and Patricia Toth who were his caretakers. Special mention to cousins Patricia (JC) Martin, Judy, Dennis and Bill Reddinger, Carol Gerhard and his best friend Wayne (Skippy) Brennan who all supported Bill and Jeanne when they truly needed it. Family and friends will be received on Sunday, December 14, 2025 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the GENE H. CORL FUNERAL CHAPEL INC. AND CREMATION SERVICES OF MONROEVILLE, 4335 Northern Pike (412-372-2100); where a service will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 15, 2025.
