Michael J. "Mick" Kelly

Michael James Kelly “Mick”, 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by his immediate family on Tuesday July 11th, 2023. Born on November 21st, 1936, in Mt. Washington, Pa., he was a lifelong Pittsburgher where he met the love of his life Joan and started a family. They eventually moved to Monroeville where he built his family home in 1960 and lived there until he passed. He served in the US Navy from 1955 through 1956. After his service to his country, he became a member of the local Steamfitters Union 449 in Pittsburgh where he was a proud member until his retirement in the early 1990s. Additionally, Mick served on Monroeville Council from 1986 through 1990. Being a person who never sat still for too long, he started his own business, Allegheny Fire Systems, installing commercial fire suppression systems with his son Michael and daughter Linda. After success in growing the company, he “re-retired”. During his retirement, Mick had many hobbies he enjoyed such as being a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Panama City Beach, Florida. Woodworking became a passion in which he was self-taught and could make just about anything. He played in the senior softball league in Penn Hills for many years. Additionally, Mick was an avid golfer and played with his group of golf buddies every Friday. He was lucky enough to have a hole in one in 2016. The king of the one-liner, there was never a person Mick met who he didn’t instantly form a friendship. The families running joke was always “Now I guess they are coming to Thanksgiving dinner”. As much as he loved his many hobbies, nothing compared to his love of family. To Mick, being with his loving wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren meant the world to him. Being an only child, it was his life mission to be surrounded by and support his family in everything they did. When you look up the word patriarch there’s a picture of him. Mick was married to and survived by his partner in life, Joan, for 65 years. He is now with his parents Hazel and Pap along with his son Michael and daughter Kimberly who he loved and missed dearly. He is survived by his daughter Linda Gaydos, sons-in-law Michael Gaydos and Bob Sutton, daughter in law Kathy George, grandchildren Andrew (Sara) and Lindsae (Brian) Heidenreich, Nikki and Jeffery Sutton, Patrick (Pam) and Jason (Katherine) Kelly and Brian (Lauren) George. Additionally, he was very proud and loved watching his eleven great-grandchildren grow over the years. We will all miss him every day but find solace in knowing he is in a better place playing 18 holes of golf, having a hotdog and a Yuengling. We love you Mick. His wishes were to be cremated with a Catholic Mass at Christ the Divine Shepherd Parish at St. Bernadette Church, 245 Azalea Drive, Monroeville, PA. 15146 on August 4th, 2023, at 11:00 am. Immediately following the Mass, the family will be holding a Celebration of Mick’s life at Pugliano’s Italian Grill, 1808 Golden Mile Highway, Pittsburgh, Pa. 15239.
