Lynne S. McConnell

Lynne S. McConnell, age 88 of Jeannette, Pa, died on April 23, 2025, at UPMC Shadyside, after being diagnosed with acute leukemia. She was born on November 23, 1936 in North Charleroi, Pa, to her parents, Robert J. Swaney and Rachel Eleanor Stephens (Swaney). Lynne graduated from Monessen High School in 1954, then received her RN from the Allegheny General Hospital School of Nursing. She also went on to complete a B.A. in Sociology from La Roche College in Pittsburgh, Pa. Mrs. McConnell was an active RN for over 50 years in multiple disciplines from OB/GYN to Cardiology and bedside nursing to case management, at Jeannette Hospital, Westmoreland Hospital, Forbes Metro and UPMC Shadyside. She also became a successful licensed Realtor with Howard Hanna Realty. Her fondest memories of childhood were listening to Big Bands on the victrola, trips to Kennywood Park, and participating in Girl Scouts and Glee Club. Lynne was a noted pianist and singer, and a gifted artist in crafts and decor. In her retirement community, she made beautiful friendships, played piano for church services, gave impromptu concerts and had monthly history lectures. She was a fan of all Pittsburgh sports teams and was devoted to her dogs, particularly her beloved corgis. Mrs. McConnell was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Nan S. Jones, brother-in-law George W. Jones and her son-in-law John G. Bollenbacher. She is survived by her sister, Vicki Henderson (Ben) of Redmond, WA, daughters, Laurie L. Smith (Charles) of Marion, SC, and Sharon A. Bollenbacher of Murrysville, PA, son, Robert T. McConnell (Claudia) of East Waterboro, ME, grandsons, Benjamin W. Martz (Kelly) of Mercer Island, WA, Patrick D. Martz (Kira Bottles) of Issaquah, WA, John G. Bollenbacher (Shannon) of Pitcairn, PA, Jeffrey D. Bollenbacher of Murrysville, and granddaughter, Laura A. Sullivan (Eric) of Branford, CT. She was also survived by three great granddaughters, Berrit Martz, Arden Martz and Alice Bollenbacher and adored nieces and nephew, Christi Taylor, Amy Lewis and Michael Mayhak. Pursuant to her wishes, interment will be private. Arrangements are being handled by the Gene H. Corl Funeral Chapel, Inc. Donations in her honor may be made to Humane Animal Rescue of Pittsburgh.
