Jovita A. Jones

Jovita Arimboanga Jones, 96, of Monroeville, PA., passed on as the sun set on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, surrounded by her family. Jovita was born on August 6, 1926, in the beautiful country of the Philippines to Agaton and Damiana Arimboanga. She was the loving wife of George Ellis Jones Jr., who she met in the Philippines on his tour of duty in the military during WW II. She is survived by her son, John A. Jones and daughter in-law Cathy Jones, and daughter, Diana Duffy-DuPont and son in-law John Duffy. She was preceded in death by her son, Charles B. Jones in 1986 and her husband George in 2004. Jovita was the loving grandmother of Brian Jones (Kelly), Joseph Duffy, Jessica Mitsch (Joseph) and Caitlin Huhn (Craig); loving great-grandmother of Jaden Jones, Cameron Mitsch, Braeden Mitsch, Max Davoli, Noah Duffy, and Theo Huhn. She is also survived by her brother, Nicolas Arimboanga Sr, sister Nativadad Agoja, and countless extended family in the Philippines. She was a significant contributor to the establishment of the Philippines Nationality Room at the Cathedral of Learning at the University of Pittsburgh. She funded the building of the George Jones Multimedia Center located at the San Macelino Elementary School in Zambales, Philippines to provide and enhance educational opportunities for the children. She also funded the creation of the Agricultural Institute of Technology located on the Jones-Domingo Farm in San Marcelino which is currently under construction. Jovita was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a bachelor’s degree in social work. She and her husband hosted many international visitors, opening their home to American hospitality through the PCIV Pittsburgh Council of International Visitors. She participated in three medical missions with the PAMS Philippine-American Medical Society. She was a member of FAAP-the Filipino American Association of Pittsburgh, and an avid mahjong player. Along with her husband, Jovita owned their own private airplane and loved to fly to different parts of the country coast to coast. One of her greatest accomplishments was becoming an IFR Pilot and became her husband’s wingman. She saw the world, helped the poor, loved us all and believed in the Lord. Family and friends will be received on Monday, February 27th from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday, February 28th, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., at the GENE H. CORL FUNERAL CHAPEL INC. AND CREMATION SERVICES OF MONROEVILLE, 4335 Northern Pike (412-372-2100). A service will follow visitation on Tuesday, February 28, 2023, in the funeral chapel at 10:30 a.m. Interment following in Smithfield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made for the Agricultural Institute of Technology, located on the Jones-Domingo farm in San Marcelino, Zambales, Philippines, and should be made payable to Diana DuPont.
