Jean Marie Zappa

It is with heavy hearts that we share the loss of our beloved Jean, “Jeannie”, Marie Zappa who passed away peacefully in Monroeville, Pennsylvania on January 3rd, 2026. Born on April 10th, 1956, in Pittsburgh, PA, she is the eldest of five siblings and is preceded in death by her parents, Ortenzio “Chick” Jr. and Anna Mae Zappa. She is survived by Godmother Marie Baccaro, sister Donna Ferree, brother D.J. Zappa (Caroline), two other sisters, nephew Nathan Ferree (Amy), niece Nicole Zappa, nephew Dominic Zappa (Rachel Marrow), and great nieces Mya and Ava Ferree. “Aunt” Jeannie will also be missed by all her “nieces and nephews” she has spanning from Pittsburgh, to Denver, to Los Angeles and everywhere in between. During her childhood, Jeannie and her family moved to Baltimore, Maryland, where she ultimately graduated in 1974 from Overlea High School. She then proceeded to earn an associate’s degree in 1976 as a Paralegal from Robert Morris University. Jeannie then continued to work diligently as a legal secretary for multiple law firms throughout her career and spent the last twenty-six years faithfully working alongside her boss or “work husband”, Bob Behling. Outside of work, Jeannie was always on the go. She was everyone’s number one fan, and you could find her at sporting events, choir concerts, and homecoming dance pictures - you name it, she was there! Jeannie was always up to catch a show or grab dinner with those she loved. Every year, you could find her in Baltimore at the Class of ’74’s annual reunion where she was the reunion committee’s treasurer, motivator, and organizer. Not only that, Jeannie was a devoted member of the Cross Roads Presbyterian Church for the past few years as an active Trustee, food pantry volunteer, cemetery board member, and finance volunteer. Plus, she was an active bowler and bocce player! For many years, Jeannie was the President of the CSX bowling league and volunteered as the Wednesday night scorekeeper for the Cross Roads Bocce League; however, Jeannie will forever be remembered as happiest at the beach with her girlfriends while listening to her favorites, Barry Manilow and Justin Timberlake on the radio. Family and friends will be received on Thursday, January 8th, from 1 to 3 pm and 5 to 8 pm at Gene H. Corl Funeral Chapel Inc. and Cremation Services of Monroeville, 4335 Northern Pike (412-372-2100). A funeral service will take place on Friday, January 9th, at 2:00 pm at Cross Roads Presbyterian Church, 2310 Haymaker Road, Monroeville, PA 15146. Please join us after the service in Cross Roads Church’s fellowship hall for a meal and fellowship.
