Jean McGuire

Oh, Sweet Mother! Jean (Regina) Louise Nacey McGuire, wife of the late Robert McGuire, died on December 30, 2025, at age 100 in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. Jean passed away three days after her 100th birthday, which she celebrated with over fifty family members. She was showered with hundreds of birthday cards from people whose lives she touched. Jean was born to Jenny Giles Nacey and delivered by her father, Thomas Gerald Nacey, at their home in McKeesport. She had two sisters: Mary Jane Falk and Helen Thomas. She graduated a year early from St. Peter’s Catholic High School in McKeesport. After high school, she worked at Tube City Beer and then in the payroll department at Irvin Works. On an Atlantic City beach trip, she went on her first date with her future husband, Robert McGuire, whom she knew from McKeesport. They married on April 14, 1951, and honeymooned in Bermuda. Her fifty-five year marriage to Bob (until his death) was full of laughter and a model to all six of their children. She lived in the Turnpike Gardens of Monroeville for 70 years. In the 1950s, she was the designated weekly grocery store driver, as she was the only housewife of the development with a driver’s license. Many of the neighborhood friends became like family. Jean and Bob were founding members of St. Bernadette’s and North American Martyr’s Catholic Churches. They were also members of the Christian Family Movement, which advocated for equality and humanity for all. She became involved in several social justice causes and was an early protestor for the migrant grape workers in the 1960s. Jean was always the center of a celebration and had the gift of gab. She delighted in socializing with family and friends, whether playing cards or cheering on her beloved Buccos. She was a devoted Pittsburgh sports fan and rarely missed watching her Steelers, Penguins, and Pirates. She attended Pirates games into her nineties. She was the first on the dance floor at weddings when her signature song “Proud Mary” came on. At age 95, she was the matron of honor at her granddaughter, Elizabeth’s wedding. She enjoyed traveling and cruises. For their twenty-fifth wedding anniversary, the children pooled resources for their parents to celebrate in Hawaii. She was always up for a road trip to see her grandchildren’s games, performances, and graduations. Annually, she looked forward to the Nacey reunion picnic and entire McGuire clan vacationing at Bethany Beach, Delaware. As a quintessential Pittsburgher, her faith and family values were central to her life. She will be deeply missed. She was predeceased by: her husband, parents, sisters, and two grandsons: Adam Holland and Tim Holland. She is survived by her six children: Patricia (Dutch) Holland of Erie; Mimi (Scott) Bell of Mt. Lebanon; Robert (Katie) McGuire of Rosslyn Farms; Jeanne (John) Coyle of Charleston, Illinois; Nancy (Mark) Richmond of Monroeville, and Jerry (Lynn) McGuire of Rochester Mills. Known as Gee-Gee, she shared unique relationships with all seventeen of her grandchildren: David (Lindsey); Andrew (Sarah); Tim; Adam; Ryan (Brianna); Maura (Logan); Madeline; Greg; Alaina; Jennifer; Julie (Jered); Jill; Joe; Alex (Becca); Elizabeth (Geoff); Michael and Brian (Katie) and her thirteen (soon to be fourteen) great-grandchildren: Josephine, Mary, Charles, Caroline, Tommy, Eleanor, Jackson, Joey, Margaret, Laurel, Richmond, Rowan, and Jordyn. She was an aunt and great-aunt to many nieces and nephews on McGuire and Nacey sides of the family. Jean lived at home until her death as she wished. All 6 of the children, with the support of their spouses, shared in her care. The family was blessed to have loving caregivers from Comfort Keepers. Some of her recollections were recorded by StoryCorps in 2016 and will be preserved in the Library of Congress. Family and friends will be received on Friday, January 2nd, from 3 to 7 pm at the GENE H. CORL FUNERAL CHAPEL INC. AND CREMATION SERVICES OF MONROEVILLE, 4335 Northern Pike (412-372-2100). A funeral mass will take place on Saturday, January 3rd, at 10 am at Christ the Divine Shepherd Parish at St. Bernadette Church (245 Azalea Drive, Monroeville). Interment will follow at Good Shepherd Cemetery.
