James L. Cunningham

It is with profound sadness that the family members of James “Jim” L. Cunningham announce his passing on June 30, 2022. He was 85 years old. Jim will be remembered lovingly by his wife of 61 years, Linda; his children, Kimberly Christ (and her husband, Jeffrey) and Jill Cunningham; his grandchildren, Ashley Glass (and her husband, Leo) and Jeffrey Christ (and his fiancée, Michelle Close); his brother, Robert Cunningham (and his wife, Peggy); as well as numerous relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy, and his parents, Leroy and Emily Cunningham. Jim was a lifelong Pittsburgher. Though born in Wilkinsburg, he later lived in Swisshelm Park and developed a love of hockey playing on the iced-over bridge outside of the Squirrel Hill tunnels. He graduated from Taylor Alderdice High School and met Linda while working in downtown Pittsburgh at the Gulf Corporation in 1957. The couple married in 1960. Jim served in the U.S. Army Reserve and later became a member of the fraternal order of Free and Accepted Masons. He was a dedicated member of Level Green Presbyterian Church. He worked in sales at Hepner Air Filter Company into his late sixties. After retirement, he spent most of his time supporting his grandchildren’s hobbies and education, going on family road trips, savoring homemade pies and cookies at family celebrations, and watching the Penguins win three more Stanley Cups. He will be most remembered for his sense of humor and his passion for meeting and befriending people wherever he went. His family welcomes those that knew him to share stories and special moments with them as they honor his memory. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, July 5 at the GENE H. CORL FUNERAL CHAPEL INC. AND CREMATION SERVICES OF MONROEVILLE, 4335 Northern Pike, Monroeville, PA. Funeral service will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2022, at the Level Green Presbyterian Church, 105 Olive Drive, Trafford. (Everyone please meet at the church).
