Barbara Shojaie

It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Barbara Shojaie, age 59, who passed away peacefully in her home on September 14, 2026, surrounded by her family. This date also marked 39 years of marriage for Barbara and her beloved husband, Javid. September 14, 1987, was the official beginning of the life they built together, filled with love, family, and countless memories. Barbara is survived by her husband, Javid Shojaie; her four daughters and two son-in-laws, Rachel and Tyler Cole, Mina and Shant Kouyoudjian, Amber Shojaie, and Kaylie Shojaie; and her four grandchildren. Barbara was born on March 18, 1967, to Mary and Sidney Johnston III and was originally from Caseyville, IL. In 1989, Barbara and Javid moved to Pittsburgh, PA. Together, they opened their restaurant and catering company, Jaden’s Catering, in April of 1991. Barbara was a phenomenal baker and became well-known for her pies, cookies, and cakes, bringing the same love and care to her baking that she brought to everything in her life. Barbara was a devoted wife, dedicated mother, loving grandmother, and compassionate friend. She touched countless lives through her kindness, her involvement in the community, her love for children and animals, and her remarkable gift for making everyone feel welcomed, cared for, and valued. An incredibly creative spirit, Barbara had a passion for music, painting, and drawing. No matter how busy or challenging life became, she always made time for her daughters, her family, and the people she loved. Barbara cared for her mother - who also had Alzheimer’s – for seven years and showed extraordinary resilience, patience, and unconditional love. Caring for others was simply part of who Barbara was, and she gave herself generously to the people she loved. Barbara was a devout Catholic and exemplified the teachings of the church through her actions every day. She was loved beyond measure and will be missed more than words can ever say. The memories she created, the love she gave, and the kindness she showed will remain in the hearts of her family and friends. Her legacy of kindness will carry on through her loved ones for years to come. There will not be any public services. Barbara’s family intends on holding a Celebration of Life sometime in the coming months. They will share the date, time, and location with loved ones and friends once arrangements have been made.
