Angelo Gaetano Vento

Angelo Gaetano Vento age 98, of Murrysville passed away suddenly on Saturday, May 13, 2023, his daughter Kathy’s birthday. Son of the late Gaetano & Philomena (Sgambati) Vento, he is survived by his loving wife of 74 years, Serafina “Sally” (Bernard) Vento and children, Alan (Barbara) and Philip; grandchildren Kelly (Shawn) Hamm, Jessica (Matthew) Hutchison, Natalie (Stephen) Laero, Aaron and Mariah Vento; great grandchildren Felice and Alana Hutchison; Jack “JJ” and Anna Hamm, Destiny, Bryson, and Samuel Laero. He is also survived by his Aunt Mille Sgambati and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Kathleen and her husband Bill Jirak; his brothers, Anthony and John Vento, and sisters Catherine (Dan) Nardozzi, Helen (Bud) Powers, Louise (Jay) Costa and Anita (Joseph) Costa. Angelo was a proud Navy Veteran of WWII serving in the Philippines during the liberation effort. After the war, he worked for the Pennsylvania RR in the Pitcairn yard, where he met the love of his life Sally. They were married in April 1949. He built a home in Monroeville where they raised their 3 children until moving to Murrysville. Angelo entered the plumbing industry and became a Master Plumber. He opened his own business, Mechanical Contractors, Inc. (MCI) originally working from the basement of his home with Sally as his secretary. MCI would eventually become A. G. Vento & Sons Plumbing Co., where he worked with his sons until retirement. He served on the Joint Plumbers Apprenticeship Committee, Allegheny County Health Department Plumbing Board and the Mechanical Contractors Association of Western PA. Angelo was a very active member of the Monroeville Kiwanis, Monroeville Senior Citizen Center, the Prime Timers Club, and the Murry Chase HOA. He and Sally travelled widely throughout their lives. They also enjoyed playing cards and traveling with their friends. Angelo was an avid golfer and initiated the Vento Cousins Golf Outing. After retiring, Angelo became ‘famous’ among his family and friends for his baking skills. His pizzelles, biscotti and tarallucci cookies will be missed at family events. He will be dearly missed by all. Family and friends will be received on Friday, May 19th from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the GENE H. CORL FUNERAL CHAPEL INC. AND CREMATION SERVICES OF MONROEVILLE, 4335 Northern Pike (412-372-2100). Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Christ the Divine Shepherd Parish at St. Bernadette Church, 245 Azalea Drive, Monroeville.
