Kathleen M. Hood

Kathleen Mary (Matvia) Hood, 81 of Monroeville, PA., left this world on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, surrounded by her family after a year of battling health issues. Kathleen was born on October 20, 1941, in Braddock Hills, PA. to Joseph and Margaret Matvia. She was the loving wife of Jerry A. Hood for 62 years and 11 months and the wonderful mother of Geralynn Hood-Holt (Tim) and Darren (Kelli) Hood. Kathleen is survived by Joseph, Helen Meininger, Paul (Doris), Denise Mastro and Kimberly Matvia. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Anthony and Matthew in addition to her dear fur baby Schotzie. Kathleen was the adoring grandmother of Hunter (Erica Mawhorr) and Alec Keough. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and was an extra special Auntie K to Brandyn Meininger. Kathleen was a very busy, active, and sociable person. While keeping her children’s schedules organized and her home perfect, she could be found volunteering, working, and spending time with her family. Her vast amount of involvement included being Judge of Elections, a short stint at working at Hardees, Cub Scout Den Mother for Darren’s Scout Pack, Girl Scout Leader (along with her side-kick sister Helen) not once but twice for Geralynn’s and her niece Brandy’s troops, gardening, and 30 plus years of employment with Gateway School District. There were a great number of adventures and travels with her husband Jerry and family as well as many escapades with her sister Helen. This little review could continue for pages of all her special attributes, assistance, counseling, sounding board moments and love for so many friends and family. If Kathleen invited you into her family circle, you would find it very difficult to escape. Heaven has gained another Angel, although a very feisty one! Kathleen could be saying “my mind just doesn’t take me there!” or “that’s why there is chocolate and vanilla ice cream”, so watch out Heaven for her gregarious personality. Family and friends will be received on Sunday, February 19 th from 1 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. at the GENE H. CORL FUNERAL CHAPEL INC. AND CREMATION SERVICES OF MONROEVILLE, 4335 Northern Pike (412-372-2100), and where a Blessing Service will be held on Monday, February 20, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. Interment following in Restland Memorial Park.
